The neo-Renaissance palace of the Opera House, which is spiced with Baroque elements, was built by Miklós Ybl, between 1875 and 1884. The entrance hall and the staircase are decorated with marble, the frescoes on the ceilings were executed by the greatest Hungarian artists of the era. The king’s box, which combines two levels, is situated in front of the stage on the three storey auditorium.
The Hydraulic stage machinery installed here for the first time in the world.
